Why is the “siesta” (short nap) almost a necessity?

The United States appears to be becoming more and more sleep deprived. National Sleep Foundation states that while naps do not necessarily make up for inadequate or poor quality nighttime sleep, a short nap of 20-30 minutes can help to improve mood, alertness and performance.

A recent research from Center for Brain and Behavior Research at the University of Haifa found that a ninety minute daytime nap helps speed up the process of long term memory (Long term memory is defined as a permanent memory that doesn’t disappear or that disappears after many years).

I know it is very tough to fit a “siesta” or afternoon nap into our busy schedule, but as much as possible, try to do it at least a few times a week and you will notice the difference!
